Special NZPopCon keynote webinar announced for 8 December 2021

We hope to welcome you all in April 2022 but this seminar will give you a taste of the conference next year. The presentations take a look at the past and potential future of the social impact of pandemics.

A webinar with two of our keynote presentations from the postponed NZ Population Conference 2021 will be held 8 December 2021 from 1.00pm to 2.30 pm online via Zoom.

Presentation 1: Turning disaster into opportunity – Using the COVID-19 crisis to improve intergenerational wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand
Girol Karacaoglu will talk about how the international crisis of Covid-19 could be a powerful pivot-point for implementing public policy that is genuinely focused on enhancing intergenerational wellbeing.

Presentation 2: Advantages of using individual death records for the 1918 Influenza pandemic in New Zealand
Geoffrey Rice will take a look a back at how he used individual death records to write his book Black November, and describes how it was used to help shape New Zealand’s Pandemic Plan.
